Skincare Tips for Glowing Skin
We all want to know the secrets to achieving healthy, glowing skin. The truth is, these secrets are not far from your grasp. There are some basic things that you can do to start your journey to healthier, clearer and more glowing skin. Want to know the secrets?
The secret to achieving gorgeous skin lies in going back to the basics. It’s not about fancy skincare products that claim to transform your skin, or that bomb highlighter that is going to give you a glow that is out of this world. The basics are easy to do and achieve.
#1: Stay hydrated
You may have heard this a million times already, but seriously, drink lots of water. Try to drink at least 1.5 – 2 litres a day (8 glasses of water). The beauty of water is that it helps to clear out toxins within your body that contribute to inflammation and blemishes. Not to mention, it helps to bring nutrients and oxygen to your skin cells, which you will be thankful for as you get older (less wrinkles!)
#2: Get enough sleep
You may not know this, but your skin is working really hard all day long: fighting off UV radiation, regulating your body temperature, protecting your body from pathogens. During sleep, your skin gets the time to repair. While you’re sleeping your skin is producing collagen and elastin, making your skin firmer and the tone more even.
#3: Take off your makeup at night
Before hitting the sheets, always take your makeup off. Like we said, your skin uses your sleep time to heal. Leaving your makeup on will lead to blocked pores, blackhead and acne. You can remove your makeup with some good makeup remover wipes, face cleanser or even a cleansing oil. If you don’t have these, go to your kitchen and grab some olive oil. Massage it into your dry skin and watch as it breaks down all the makeup on your face!
#4: Wear sunscreen
Whether it is sunny or cloudy, you should apply SPF of at least 30. Make sure your sunscreen blocks both UVA and UVB rays. Did you know that 90% of wrinkles come from sun exposure? While you may not see the damage of sun exposure right now, you’ll definitely see the developments later in life such as wrinkles, age spots and skin cancer.
#5: Stop touching/picking
We know how hard it is not to pick at those pimples, but learning to stop touching your face will make a lifetime of difference. Your hands and nails pick up a lot of bacteria that you are transferring directly to your face every time to touch it. Instead of picking at pimples, spot treat them with products containing salicylic acid.
#6: Watch what you eat
Make sure you are eating enough fresh fruits, vegetables, protein and getting vitamins in your diet. Vitamin C is especially important for helping promote radiant skin, as well as eating foods low in fat and sugar. We’re not saying to cut out fast food from your diet completely, but keep in mind how much of it you eat.
#7: Use illuminating makeup products
After applying your skin care products and for SPF, give some glow back to your face with an illuminating primer or liquid before the rest of your makeup. Apply it wherever the sun might naturally hit your face: the tip of your nose, the tops of your cheekbones, your brow bone. Instant glow!
